America's inland waterway network is one of our most valuable natural resources and Marquette considers itself and its people environmental stewards of this resource.

Barge transportation has long ranked as one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly means of moving products to markets. In fact, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics, water transportation remains the safest and most regulated form of transportation, experiencing fewer accidental spills or collisions, using less fossil fuels, and creating less air and noise pollution than any other method.

To ensure we do our part to preserve and protect the waterways we navigate, Marquette conducts more than 74 onboard training sessions and required drills on each vessel every year. We also have an approved USCG Ship Oil Pollution Emergency Plan. Our onboard personnel are highly skilled maritime professionals who are continuously trained and tested in environmental safety and operations to ensure prompt, knowledgeable response in the event of an emergency. Marquette is CDC (Certain Dangerous Cargoes)-compliant and an active member of the AWO, its various subgroups, and all of the River Industry Working Groups.
